Effect of full fat soya on the performance of cockerel

2004
A 6-week trial was conducted to study the effect of replacement offish meal by full fat Soya (FFS) on the production performance of day old WLH (Habbard BV300 strain) cockerel. Birds (150) were divided into 5 equal groups viz. birds in control group were fed diet containing 10% fish meal (T1). In T2, T3, T4 and T5 groups, fish meal from T1 diet was replaced by 25, 50, 75 and 100%, respectively by FFS. All the diets were iso-nitrogenous and isocaloric containing 23% CP and 2900 k.cal ME. The feed consumption and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were significantly (P<0.05) influenced by different dietary treatments. Higher FCR was noted in T5 (4.27 ± 0.04), but significantly (P<0.05) lower in T2 group (3.11 ± 0.02). Body weight gain was significantly (P<0.05) superior in birds fed diet T2 as compared to others. The performance index (PI) was highest (P<0.05) in T2 group but PI of T4 group was comparable to that of T1 group, indicating that fish meal might be replaced successfully by FFS up to 75% in the diet.
