A case of mandibular fracture associated with lateral-superior displacement of the intact mandibular condyle

1994
This case report describes a lateral-superior displacement of the mandibular condyle of a 44-year-old man who had been injured in a trafic accident. At admission, he presented with complete left facial nerve palsy. Radiological examination demonstrated fractures of the mandible in the right condylar and symphyseal regions, with lateral-superior displacement of the intact left condyle, which was lying above the zygomatic arch. After repositioning the left condyle into a normal position, the right condylar and symphyseal fractures were reduced and fixed. After 7 months follow-up, the temporo-mandibular joint function is normal and the facial paralysis has almost resolved with conservative therapy.
