The Investigation of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

The clinical evaluation of patients suffering with benign prostatic hyperplasia relies upon the interpretation of clinical symptoms aided by the appropriate application of objective tests. The bladder is often said to be an “unreliable witness” not only because of the considerable overlap of symptom complexes but also as a result of subjective bias (Turner-Warwick et al. 1973). The value of symptom scoring remains the subject of ongoing debate at present.
