Fiber System and method for temperature control and for compensating for fiber optic current detection systems

2010
A fiber optic current measuring system uses at least one light source operating to generate light having one or more desired wavelengths. A first fiber-based sensor which is transparent to a desired wavelength, operates to detect a magnetic field from a predetermined electrical conductor or a current flowing through the electric conductor current is emitted. A temperature sensor, which may be another fiber-based sensor operates to detect an operating temperature associated with the first fiber optic-based sensor in response to the signal generated by the light source. A signal processing means adjusts the measured current in order to substantially compensate for temperature-induced errors associated with the measured current in response to the measured operating temperature of the optical fiber sensor.
