Monolithic silicon DP-IQ modulator for digital coherent transmission

2016
Rapid growth in the demand for data traffic has facilitated the introduction of high-capacity digital coherent transmission for long-haul optical fiber networks. For successful digital coherent transmission to metro-area networks or shorter ranges, the cost and size of transmission equipment and its components must be further reduced. Silicon photonics is a fascinating technology to meet this requirement through their high-density integration of various optical components with low-cost fabrication. A silicon dual-polarization (DP) in-phase quadrature (IQ) optical modulator is a suitable candidate for such an application. In this talk, we introduce our development on silicon optical modulators for digital coherent transmission.
