Safety assessment considerations for offshore floating production and storage units. Discussion. Reply

1991
Description of a typical safety assessment carried out on a conceptual FPU used to exploit a marginal offshore field. A formalised risk analysis is the basic approach used in the assessment. Hazardous events affecting the operation of the facility are identified and examples of the approach used in quantifying their frequency of occurrence and consequences are given. The overall risks are presented in a F-N format in terms of possible percentage damage for specified area, oil pollution and loss of life. This type of assessment could be made part of a formal safety assessment such as that currently under consideration for offshore installations by the Department of energy
