Assignment of maize inbreds into heterotic groups based on universal fluorescent labeled SSRs

This study was performed to assess genetic diversity and genetic distance among representative inbreds from Chinese maize breeding programs based on universal fluorescent labeled SSRs.The results revealed a great genetic distance between inbreds with Lancaster Surecrop(LSC) germplasm,Tangsipingtou (TSPT) germplasm,and the other germplasms in their genetic backgrounds.In contrast,the inbreds containing Reid Yellow Dent(RYD) germplasm closely related to the inbreds containing Liida Red Cob (LDRC) germplasm in their backgrounds.The inbreds detected in this study were clustered into three groups,LSC(GroupⅠ),TSPT(GroupⅢ) and,the groupⅡin which the inbreds from the LDRC heterotic group and the Improved Reid heterotic group were largely clustered with the inbreds released from the Reid type population BSSS.
