Approaches to domino effects evolution and risk assessment

Abstract Accidents involving a domino effect have caused devastating consequences in the chemical industry. Subsequently, several approaches have been proposed and developed to model the causes and consequences of domino scenarios. These approaches are based on simple assumptions to a detailed analysis of physical mechanisms. In this chapter, approaches for modeling vulnerability of installations, modeling of evolution, and risk assessment of domino effects are presented. This chapter provides clear trends in the development of approaches for domino effect modeling and risk assessment.
