Performance Characteristics of Significance by SOM and its Application to Fundus Image Analysis.

This paper describes fundamental characterisitics of significane by SOM and its appilaction to Fundus images analysis. Unlike classical statistical treatment, Tokutaka et al. proposed the significance by SOM based on a new concept of the significance; significance is a magnitude relation between each element of two classes. There are several applications of the proposed method by Tokutaka et al. However, since the proposed method is a new concept, it is not yet enough to elucidate fundamental characteristics. Thus using the benchmark data of iris of Fisher-Anderson, the properties of significance are clarified, and its effectiveness is clarified from application to fundus image analysis as a practical application.
