Opportunistic Screening for Cervical Cancer in Guizhou Province

Objective To evaluate the current opportunistic screening(OS) in diagnosis of cervical cancer in Guizhou Province.Methods Data from 1842 women screened for cervical cancer in our the People's Hospital of Guizhou Province were collected and analyzed.Five methods were used for OS: liquid-based cytology,classical Pap smear,human papillomavirus(HPV)-DNA test,Hybrid Capture II assay,and colposcopy.All the suspected patients underwent biopsy.Each case of cervical lesion or cervical cancer was confirmed pathologically.Results The infection rate of HPV was 21.87%.Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia was diagnosed in 39 patients(2.12%) and cervical cancer in 2 patients(0.11%).Conclusion As the prevalence of cervical cancer or pre-cancer is high among the women who visit hospitals for gynecologic diseases,opportunistic screening should be highly recommended so as to diagnose and treat cervical cancer and pre-cancer properly and timely.
