Development and application of electromagnetic field excitation models for dosimetry studies in the THz range

2014
The determination of the field, SAR and temperature distributions in individuals exposed to an electromagnetic field at terahertz frequencies requires the solution of a corresponding boundary value problem. For this purpose, in addition to high-resolution human partial-body models, also models for different exposure fields are required. The fields of many electromagnetic sources can be locally approximated by a uniform excitation model, which allows to generate field patterns of e.g. patch antennas or an open end of a TEM waveguide. On the other hand, there are sources emitting beams, which can be better described by a Gaussian excitation. The development of such excitation models for the appropriate representation of the output fields of terahertz sources will be discussed in this paper.
