BIOLOGY OF PACHLIOPTA ARISTOLOCHIAE ADIEUS(RORHSCHILD)

The morphological characteristics and living habits at all the metamorphosis stages of Pachliopta aristolochiae adieus(Rorhschild) and its life cycle are described in this paper.Field investigation and indoor laboratory rearing showed that 2 or 3 generations of this butterfly occurred in a year in Yongchuan of Chongqing.Maximum number of adults was recorded in May,August and September.They over-wintered as pupae.At a temperature of 22~25℃,the egg stage,larval stage,pupal stage and adult stage lasted for 8~10,20~33,15~18 and 10~20 days,respectively.Its head width logarithm increased with instars at the larval stage,the regression equation being lgY =-0.794 + 0.424 X.
