Steady Propagation of Buckle in Elastic Pipelines

1989
This paper deals with steady propagation of buckle in elastic pipelines subjected to bending, axial tension and hydrostatic side pressure. Analysis is made on the basis of the approximate equations derived previously for the beam-flexural mode coupled with the ringflexural mode. With a velocity smaller than that of the transverse wave due to ‘effective tension’, a kink can be propagated driven forward by both actions of axial tension and side pressure. Its propagation pressure and propagation velocity are given in terms of a maximum deflection, axial tension and side pressure.
