Tetanus in a partially immunized child

2018
Abstract A 13-year-old boy developed tetanus, although he had protective antitoxin antibody raised by three doses of tetanus toxoid vaccine. Four days after injury, he presented with muscle rigidity of his posterior neck, excessive diaphoresis, and risus sardonicus and was subsequently diagnosed with tetanus. Tetanus is rare in developed countries, particularly during childhood, but must be promptly diagnosed based on clinical symptoms.
