NEUROCIENCIA COGNITIVA DEL DESARROLLO: EL PERIODO PRE-ESCOLAR DEVELOPMENTAL COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE: THE PRE-SCHOOLING PERIOD

During the first months of life, the cross-talk between cognitive development and brain development is particularly clear. Recent advances in brain imaging techniques, such as functional magnetic ressonance, have allowed a better understanding of how the human brain develops. Here I present a short introduction to some basic concepts on how our brain changes as a function of genetic pre-programming and environmental interaction. Early language development is a clear showcase of such complex interaction. Although it is likely too early to apply most of our current knowledge to the school context, a well-grounded knowledge (free of neuromyths and pseudoscience) will help educational professionals to better understand the learning process.
