A study was madeofthebiochemical profiles of59strains serotyped asStreptococcus suis, isolated from diseased andclinically healthy pigs. Thefollowing parameters areproposed fortheidentification ofthespecies: Voges-Proskauer negativity, hydrolysis ofesculin positivity, trehalose positivity, negativity forgrowthin6.5% NaCi,andabsence ofbeta-hemolysis on sheepblood agar.S.suisserotype 2 isnegative forhippurate, pyrrolidonylarylamidase, andmannose.
