The invention discloses a magnetorheological shock absorber suitable for an overhead power transmission line and relates to the technical field of shock absorption devices. A U-shaped central cylinder barrel is arranged in an operating outer cylinder barrel. The operating outer cylinder barrel is installed outside the U-shaped central cylinder barrel in a sliding fit mode through a hinge pin. A sealing end cover is installed at a barrel opening of the U-shaped central cylinder barrel. An electromagnetic coil is wound in a piston. The end, connected with the piston, of a piston rod penetrates through a through hole in the sealing end cover to extent out of the operating outer cylinder barrel. The piston rod is connected with one end of a non-magnetism-conducting second spring. The other end of the second spring is fixedly connected into the top end of the operating outer cylinder barrel. The other end of the piston rod is in sliding fit with a guide base. A floating piston is arranged on the side, where the guide base is located, of the interior of the U-shaped central cylinder barrel. An energy storage cavity is formed between the floating piston and the inner wall of the U-shaped central cylinder barrel behind the floating piston. By the adoption of the magnetorheological shock absorber suitable for the overhead power transmission line, the influence of the outside environment is reduced, the shock absorption effect is good, the operating environment of a wire is improved, and the service life of the wire is prolonged.
