Assessing the potential of goal programming to improve the effectiveness of resource allocation among demand-side management programs

Although the problem formulated for this analysis was greatly simplified, the potential of goal programming for problem solving is recognized. Work will continue on improving the problem formulation, which has proven to be the most difficult aspect of the evaluation. It is often difficult to state all applicable constraints to a real-world problem as a quantitative, linear function. Future analysis of the applicability of decision science techniques to this problem will include an evaluation of non-linear programming in an attempt to obtain a more realistic model.
