Quantitative Studies of Oxygen Exchange in Blood Substitution by Polymeric Stroma-free Haemoglobulin Solution

1985
Quantitative studies of O2 exchange in blood substitution through polymeric stroma-free haemoglobulin solution show that the O2 supply to the tissue is not reduced and central venous PaO2 remains in the normal range. Sixty per cent of the O2 is carried in the plasma phase and 40% is carried by the erythrocytes. It is concluded that in the normal pO2 range this stroma-free haemoglobulin solution can be used as O2-carrying medium.
