Quality Measurement Criteria and Optimization Algorithm of Tetrahedral Mesh for Centrifugal Pumps

A new mesh optimization algorithm was proposed to control boundary mesh quality in the mesh optimization.Calculations were performed to analyze the ability of seven methods to distinguish four kinds of poor-quality elements and their effects on the equivalent change of element shape,and compare the time each method costs.Then an error function was derived from an optimal measurement criterion.The error function was adopted as the objective function of the optimization-based smoothing.In the objective function,the function terms considering boundary mesh quality and internal mesh quality were included,and a weighted coefficient controlling boundary mesh quality was added.The practical application of the optimization algorithm for a centrifugal pump impeller shows that the worst elements can be eliminated and the whole quality can be improved clearly.Moreover,the quality of the average mesh in the boundary rises with the increase in the weighted coefficient.
