RECYCLED ASPHALT MAKES A BETTER PAVEMENT IN JAPAN

1987
Ten years ago an open-ended road asphalt recycling programme was set up in the city of Osaka in Japan with the view of producing 50% of its total asphalt output from recycled material. A recent study of the mechanical characteristics of recycled mixtures from seven-year-old pavements has revealed a number of advantages over conventional asphalt mixtures, in particular improvement in compactibility, mixture stiffness, resistance to fatigue cracking and water resistance.
