ABSTRACT Fany Fitria. GROUP COUNSELING THROUGH GAME SIMULATION TECHNIQUE FOR IMPROVING SELF-ESTEEM ON EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF STATE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 2 PUHPELEM IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2014/2015. Thesis. Teacher Training and Education Faculty Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. December 2014. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of group counseling techniques through game simulation games for improving self-esteem on eight grade students of State Junior High School 2 Puhpelem in the academic year 2014/2015. This study was an experimental study with a quasi-experimental design. The research subjects were 30 students who have low self-esteem. The techniques used to capture the subject was non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The data collection techniques used self-esteem scale. To valid the instrument used bivariate pearson, while the instrument reliability test used the technique of Cronbach Alpha with reliability coefficient was 0.927. The data analysis technique used a non-parametric statistical analysis techniques Wilcoxon test and Mann-Whitney test. The results of this study showed on the experimental group that there was the difference between pretest scores and posttest scores which obtained Wilcoxon Signed Test namely Z count of -3.873 with a significance of 0.000 <0.01, then (H a ) is accepted, means that there is a significant difference between pretest and posttest of the experimental group after getting treatment. Based on the results of the study also showed that on the experimental group and the control group, there was the differences posttest scores obtained Mann-Whitney U test count of 0.000 and Z of -4.784 with a significance of 0.000 <0.01, then (H 0 ) is rejected, means that there are differences significantly between the experimental group and the control group with group posttest score in improving the self-esteem of learners. Based on this study it can be concluded that the group guidance through game simulation techniques is effective to improve self-esteem on eight grade students of State Junior High School 2 Puhpelem in the academic year 2014/2015.
