T1632 Toxoplasma Gondii Infection Does Not Alter Serologic Responses to Helicobacter pylori in Colombian Children and Thus Appears to Not Contribute to Gastric Cancer Risk

2009
IL-17 mRNA were observed at 3, 6 and 12 months, respectively. Mucosal IL-1β, IL-11 and IL-18 mRNA levels were consistently higher in the antrum than in the corpus; whereas the IL-17 mRNA level was similar in both mucosae. No ulcers develop in the isogenic mutants inoculated animals during observation periods. Cellular infiltrations and all cytokines levels studied were also markedly decreased in gerbils infected with the babA or oipA mutants compared with wild-type strains. H. pylori density was independent of the mutations. Conclusions: This is the first study of IL-11 and IL-17 mRNA levels in gerbil gastric mucosa. Natural history of inflammation-related cytokine levels in the gastric mucosa differed among cytokines suggesting that different outcomes might occur because of imbalances among cytokines. We also confirmed that the BabA and OipA play important roles on gastric mucosal inflammation; however the both factors were independent of H. pylori density in gerbils.
