Lessons from the SPA European performance assessment exercise for spent fuel disposal in granite

The SPA project is a direct continuation of the efforts made by the European Community since 1982 to build a common understanding of the methods applicable to performance assessment of a deep geological disposal. Devoted to the case of spent fuel, SPA is a follow-up to the PAGIS [1], PACOMA [2] and EVEREST [3] projects that dealt with the disposal of intermediate level long lived wastes and high level vitrified wastes.
