EIGHT CASES REPORT OF SURGICAL RECONSTRUCTION FOR SUBCLAVIAN ARTERIAL OBSTRUCTION AT ITS ORIGIN

1989
For recent five years, we experienced ten cases of subclavian arterial obstruction and operated eight cases among them. Of the eight cases, three were reconstructed by aortic axillary arterial bypass, four by various nonanatomical bypass, and one by subclavian-common carotid arterial end-to-side anastomosis (so-called "transposition" method). Each operation could offer symptomatic remission and favorable patency in all the cases, however, a sustained pain at the wound and pneumonia were complicated in cases received axillary arterial bypass. A transient hoarseness was noted in one case received nonanatomical bypass. Transposition method appears to be the first choice of surgical method for the disease, because it demands only one incision and no warfarin sodium, accompanies by lower potencial of complications, and keeps the patency for a long term.
