The morphology of the cereal cyst nematode in Australia is described. Comparison with descriptions of Heterodera avenae Woll. in Europe and Canada does not support speculation that the nematode in Australia may represent a separate species. The differences in measurements leading to confusion about the identity of H. avenae in Australia may have been due, in part, to environmental influences, but also to differences in fixation methods and errors in reporting.
