Application of Seismic Trace-Based Analysis to Detect the Extent of Injected CO2 Using Modeled Seismic Data from Aquistore

2019
A trace-based analysis method was applied to synthetic seismic data generated using models built to simulate pre- and post-CO2 injection conditions at the Aquistore site. The Aquistore permanent array geometry and a single stationary source were used to generate synthetic seismic records with different levels of noise to simulate real-world conditions. A comparison of nRMS amplitude difference maps, created using the trace-based analysis method and the interpreted plume outline from traditional 4-D analysis done using field data, indicated that if the right noise conditions could be achieved, this method would produce interpretable maps showing the extent of the injected CO2.
