Chorionic gonadotrophin (CG) is probably a major luteotrophic stimulus of early pregnancy in primates. CG, a product of the implanting trophoblast, is believed to be essential for the ovarian progesterone production which is necessary for normal implantation and for pregnancy maintenance.
