Characteristics of longitudinal retaining walls used as slide-restricting structures

1995
A new slide-restricting structure, whose behavioral characteristics during interaction with a displaceable soil mass are investigated under laboratory and field conditions, is addressed. Design formulas are proposed for determination of basic parameters of these structures and the depth of their embedment in stable soils. An example of the practical use of longitudinal walls for the stabilization of a slide-prone stratum of significant thickness is cited.
