Treatment of Calculosis of the Lower Ureter with Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy

As of July 1987, 54 patients suffering from calculi in the lower ureter (pelvic, premural, intramural) were treated with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) by using the Siemens Lithostar and/or endoscopy. Each patient underwent preliminary ureteral catheterization. In 15 patients we utilized a Dormia basket. The stones were removed during the endoscopic procedure in 12 cases. In the other cases we obtained satisfactory fragmentation of the stones and subsequent expulsion of the fragments.
