Millimeterwave eight-way waveguide combiner for high power combining

This paper presented a low loss millimeter wave eight-way waveguide power combiner for high power combining. The design of combiner core is based on J. REED's multiple branch waveguide coupler principle. Two correction factors were applied in this design to optimize the branch coefficients in Ka-Band applications. A seven-branch 3dB combiner core design with the described method, has been fabricated in WR 28 waveguide. The insertion loss of such core is 0.10 dB in simulation and 0.15dB in actual measurement. This eight-way combiner consists of seven Reed's coupler cores and the measured overall insertion loss is less than 1.2dB.
