RESULTS OF INORGANIC ZINC SILICATE DRILL PIPE COATING SYSTEM

For the past 10 years, a unique drill pipe coating system has been used by the Ocean Drilling Program. Coating selection criteria, application techniques and field performance are reviewed for this specialised drilling operation. Accomplishment of three main objectives is discussed: 1) preventing contamination of core samples, 2) preventing internal and external corrosion of drill pipe and 3) providing a tough, abrasion-resistant coating system for excessive wireline and oil tool use.
