Immediate postabortion insertion of IUDs (authors transl)

Our department has since 1973 offered immediate insertion of IUD to patients hospitalized for legal abortion. 343 insertions have been performed. Postoperative inflammatory complications are not more frequent than in the group who did not accept the offered IUD insertion. A questionnaire has been distributed to patients thus treated during the last 3 years. The continuation rate after 3 months was 90.2%. On the basis of our experience and the literature reviewed we recommend this method of IUD insertion. (Authors modified) (Summary in ENG)
