Extracranial as Silent Giant Cell Arteritis: Case Report

2021
Background: GCA (Giant Cell Arteritis) is a granulomatous vasculitis of large arteries, frequently, observed typical cranial symptoms but sometimes nonspecific extracranial involvements are dominant. Diagnosis of this “occult” or “extracranial” GCA as a medical emergency is crucial to prevent irreversible complications. The aim is presentation of a 52-years-old man without cranial manifestations who lead to acute peritonitis and death. Conclusion: Elevated inflammatory markers without cranial manifestations should be considered of extracranial GCA. Delay of diagnosis in GCA especially extracranial type could led to irreversible and severe complications.
