Response of Durum Wheat (Triticum durum Desf) Cultivar Acsad 1107 to Sewage Sludge Amendment Under a Semi-Arid Climate

2008
The use of sewage sludge on a large scale and at relatively low rates can contribute to the husbandry of urban wastes. This is interesting since this utiliza- tion in agriculture appeared to increase crop production. The results of the present investigation, whose objective was to study the response of a rain-fed cereal crop to organic amendment with sewage sludge showed an increase in grain yield and yield component, mainly spike fertility and straw production. 30 t/ha of sewage sludge dry matter were as efficient as 66 kg/ha of mineral nitrogen.
