TEMPERATURE, SHRINKAGE AND CREEP. MEASUREMENTS AND CALCULATIONS RELATING TO A MOTORWAY BRIDGE
1981
A large amount of information on deformations of prestressed concrete bridges due to temperature, creep, and shrinkage can be obtained from measurements and numerical calculations. The following main conclusions can be drawn from this information: (1) both the ACI-70 method and the CEB-70 method provide reasonable predictions of shrinkage and creep. (2) as the period of measurement has so far been relatively short, it is not yet possible to arrive at any definitive conclusions concerning these two methods. (3) a detailed analysis of deformations due to shrinkage (and creep) requires methods which take account of the reversible nature of the processes. Neither of the investigated methods complies with this requirement. Finally, it may be stated that the matrix method proposed by Kaj Madsen is simple to use for computer programming in dealing with statically indeterminate structures. (TRRL)
