Poster Abstract: GasMon: A Sensor Network System for Residential Building Gas Leak Monitoring

Residential building explosion caused by gas leak takes place every year. The explosion leads to a lot of injures even dead since it usually results in the partial collapse of the building. An automated approach to detecting the gas leak to keep the residents safe is thus of utmost importance. In this paper, we present the design of Gas Mon, a wireless sensor network system for gas leak monitoring. The aim of the system is to detect the gas leak in every apartment in a building in real time, and deliver the alarm event to the remote control center, e.g., the emergency service. If gas leak occurs, the control center can provide help as soon as possible to avoid violent explosion.
