Determining Focal Therapy Failure and Salvage Options

Focal therapy for localized prostate cancer is a treatment modality under investigation. Several consensus meetings have tried to set standards in determining the optimal workup and defining the best candidate for focal therapy. However, cancer outside the treatment zone can still be present and also persistence or recurrence within the treatment zone can occur during follow-up. As for focal therapy, the optimal treatment salvage approach for recurrent cancer still has to be defined. The definitions for failure and possible salvage treatment options will be discussed.
