The crystallization behavior of Fe77.2P18Si4.8 metallic glass

1990
Abstract The crystallization behavior of Fe 77.2 P 18 Si 4.8 metallic glass has been investigated. Spinodal decomposition occurs prior to crystallization. Both nucleation and growth are observed during crystallization. The kinetic parameters of crystallization are determined using differential scanning calorimetry and the equations of the maximum crystallization rate. The activation energy of crystallization is about 152 kcal mol −1 and the values of the Avrami exponent are about 4 for a heating rate of 2.5–10°C min −1 , and 5 for a heating rate of 20°C min −1 . This suggests that the nucleation rate of crystallization increases with time.
