Structure and Properties of HEMA and HEA Copolymer as Carrier for Microorganism Immobilization Synthesized by Irradiation Method

The ammonia-oxidizing bacteria were immobilized by immobilized cell proliferation technology with copolymer made from radiation copolymerization at low temperature by means of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA) and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate(HEA).FT-IR spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),water contact angle and water retention were used to characterize the properties of the copolymer.Results show that water contact angle of copolymer is almost 0 and water retention is 450% after selling enough,which indicates that copolymer has good surface wettability.There are polar groups on the surface of copolymer.The(copolymer) is amorphous,in favour of infiltration and proliferation of small molecules especially water molecules.The copolymer has hole structure,being conducive to microorganism growth and reproduction.The short-cut nitrification is realized using immobilized ammonia-oxidizing bacteria during wastewater treatment. When influent NH~+_4-N load of reactor has gone through three phrases(100、150、200 mg/L),the(ammonia) nitrogen removal rate and short-cut nitrification efficiency reach more than 95% and 90%(respectively.)
