Desarrollo y validación clínica de una herramienta de simulación virtual para el diseño y evaluación de prótesis de rodilla

El estudio del comportamiento funcional de protesis de rodilla mediante este tipo de herramientas permite la evaluacion de disenos sin hacer necesaria su materializacion. El Instituto de Biomecanica de Valencia (IBV) se encuentra desarrollando un proyecto de investigacion coordinado con el Departamento de Tecnologia de la Universidad "Jaume I" de Castellon, que tiene como objetivo el desarrollo y validacion clinica de una herramienta de simulacion virtual que sera de gran ayuda en el diseno y evaluacion de innovadores sistemas protesicos de rodilla. Las tecnicas biomecanicas experimentales de valoracion funcional que se pondran a punto, podran ser tambien transferidas al mundo clinico dotando a los profesionales de herramientas objetivas de diagnostico y seguimiento de pacientes con patologias de rodilla. EnglishThe use of virtual simulation tools based on analytical models allows the biomechanical study of problems, which cannot be directly studied on humans or whose experimentation cost would be very high. The study of the functional behaviour of knee-prostheses is one of the problems, where the use of simulation tools allows the functional evaluation of designs, that have not been materialised yet. The Institute of Biomechanics of Valencia (IBV) is developing a research project in coordination with the Technology Department of the "Jaume I" University of Castellon, whose main objective is the development of a tool for the virtual simulation of the knee, integrated in a CAD/CAM/CAE system, that will allow the evaluation of different prosthetic knee designs, paying attention specially to their kinematic and dynamic behaviour. During the project, experimental techniques for functional evaluation will be set up, that may be transferred to the clinical field providing professionals with new tools for the objective diagnosis and follow up of patients with knee pathologies.
