Health Risk Assessment in Coal-Fired Power Plant in Malaysia

2013
This study presents health risk assessment (HRA) due to pollutants emission from coal-fired power plant (CFPP) in Malaysia. Air dispersion modelling is used to determine the pollutants concentration over short range transportation from the emission source. AERMOD which is widely adopted in the US as the regulatory air quality model, is used to model the dispersion of pollutants from CFPP. The pollutants concentration obtained from the air dispersion modelling is then used as an input data to assess the health risk impact to population due to emission from CFPP. Based on the health risk assessment, the emission from the studied CFPP would not cause adverse health impacts to population, neither non-carcinogenic nor carcinogenic effects.
