Numerical Simulation of Representative Fire Scenarios after Aircraft Impact for Nuclear Power Plant

2018
Regulations, such as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, standards of International Atomic Energy Agency, as well as requirements in China, require applicants for new reactor design to perform a design-specific assessment of the effects on the facility of the impact of a large, commercial aircraft. Effects, building damage, shock damage and fire damage, should be taken in to account while performing the assessment. Considering the complex of fire combustion after aircraft impact, a simplified model for heat transfer was established in the paper. Numerical investigation methodology was applied to simulate the temperature distribution on containment shell under different wind conditions. We concluded that, when the wind speed grows up to 5m/s, the influence of the direction will decrease, except front wind condition, while the heat convection play a dominate role.
