The invention discloses a long-distance water environment monitor and monitoring method based on Zigbee and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service). The long-distance water environment monitor and monitoring method is to divide the water area needed to be monitored into a plurality of small monitoring areas, a plurality of secondary node modules and a main node module are configurated in each monitoring area and the secondary node module and the main node module in the whole monitoring area are connected in a star-like mode. A water quality parameter collecting module collects water quality parameters and sends the parameters to a second zigbee wireless communication module, the second zigbee wireless communication module sends the parameters to a first zigbee wireless communication module in a relay transmission mode through the zigbee protocol networking, ARM (Advanced RISC Machines) processer fuses and processes data and transmits the data to long-distance end network monitoring center through a GPRS module, the main node module controls the entrance and exit of the secondary node module and monitors the working condition of the secondary node module and the Zigbee and GPRS technology are combined to monitor the water environment in real time at the long-distance end.
