El cortometraje documental peruano 1972-1980

2015
Peru is not known for its cinematic tradition because its filmmakers were busily producing newsreels and documentaries. Since the military regime’s enactment of Decree No 19327, in 1972, made exhibition of Peruvian films mandatory, filmmakers focused their documentaries on the cultural, religious, and geographic diversity of the nation. This essay analyzes documentaries made during the peak of production between 1972 and 1980, and it explores the added difficulty of circumventing the regime’s censorship, given the political context in the Latin America, and especially in the Southern Cone, during the 1970s.
