In a previous paper, we proposed a 3-phase variable inductor, which has a sinusoidal output current and good controllability. We developed a var compensator for a 6.6 kV ac distribution system using the 3-phase variable inductor, which is composed of three orthogonalcores that have wedge gaps for reducing the harmonics in the output current.
