N-azinyl-N '- (het) arylsulfonyl-ureas

PURPOSE: To provide a novel compd. which has a strong herbicidal activity and is useful as a herbicide. CONSTITUTION: A compd. of formula I [wherein A is N or CR 11 (wherein R 11 is H, alkyl, or the like); R 1 is H, alkoxy, or the like; R 2 and R 3 are each H, halogen, or the like; and J is a group of formula II or III (wherein E is a direct bond, alkylene, or the like; R 4 to R 7 are each H, cyano, or the like; and R 10 is H, thiocyanate, or the like) or the like] or its salt is provided. An example is N-(4,6 -dimethoxypyrimidin -2-yl)-N'-(2 -(5,6-dihydro -[1,4,2] -dioxazin -3-yl) benzenesulfonyl)urea. The compd. is obtd. by reacting a (het)arylsulfonamide of the formula: J-SO 2 -NH 2 with an N-azinyl carbanmate of formula IV (wherein R 12 is alkyl or aryl). The compd. of the formula: J-SO 2 -NH 2 is a novel compd. and is prepd. e.g. by reacting 1-benzylthio-2-(5,6-dihydro-[1,4,2]-dioxazin-3-yl) benzene with chlorine, water and ammonia.
