Evaluation of the Learning Models Using Multi-criteria Decision Making Theory

2021
Many different learning methods are used in education, and some are more effective than others the aim of this study is to evaluate the performance of various types of learning methods by applying multi-criteria decision making analysis. In this study, we analyzed the most commonly used learning methods such as traditional learning, flipped classroom method, collaborative learning, and the gamification approach in order to evaluate the performance of these methods based on important parameters. The study was conducted with 180 first year engineering students assigned to four groups. Group 1 learned with the traditional learning method, group 2 learned with the flipped classroom method, group 3 learned with collaborative learning, and group 4 learned with the gamified flipped classroom. Data were collected from a physics achievement test, science motivational questionnaire, physics attitude questionnaire, and class attendance list. The Fuzzy PROMETHEE method (Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment of Evaluations) has been used, which is a multi-criteria decision-making technique successfully applied in many fields. The evaluation results showed that the gamified flipped classroom method was the best option, while the traditional method was the least effective. This study provides valuable information about the learning methods.
