Varios impasses surgem com os avancos tecnologicos, cientificos e com acelerada mudanca na sociedade dita pos-moderna. A proposta do presente trabalho e uma reflexao critica de questoes que interferem no modelo de ensino da area de saude, criticado por ser intervencionista e produto de nossa historia social; e desvelar o cenario e desafios do nosso desconhecimento enquanto educadores no processo de transformacao profissional na area de saude. A metodologia consistiu de pesquisa bibliografica, de natureza exploratoria e descritiva, fundamentando teoricamente, justificando os limites e contribuicoes das questoes levantadas. Dentro do cenario educacional e social, buscamos compreender o novo profissional desta area, cujas competencias deverao incluir o estabelecimento de metas, de organizacao, de decisoes e responsabilidade pelo proprio trabalho. O grande desafio deste cenario esta na compreensao da realidade fora do mundo academico e organizacao disciplinar do conhecimento. O papel do sujeito na educacao, a representacao social, a interdisciplinaridade, complexidade humana e institucional fazem parte de um grande inventario sobreas questoes que interferem na formacao de um profissional para a saude neste novo contexto. A Universidade, tanto publica como privada, devera construir um sujeito compromissado, gerador de mudancas e capaz de enfrentar desafios na area de saude. Serias reflexoes a respeito da insercaoda pesquisa no processo educacional sao necessarias. O processo tecnologico vem ocorrendo sem considerar a vida humana. Assim, nos novos conteudos, e necessario inserir aspectos antropologicose culturais que representem a compreensao dos comportamentos em relacao a saude. Technological and scientific advances as well as fast changes in so-called post-modern society have resulted in several impasses. This present work is meant to be a critical reflection upon issues that affect the health teaching model as criticized for being interventionist and a product of our social history; and to reveal the scenario and challenges out of our lack of knowledge while educators within the process of professional transformation in the health area. This study consisted of a bibliographical research, of exploratory and descriptive nature, basing theoretically limits and contributions of the addressed issues. Within the educational and societal scenarios, we attempted to understand the new professional of this area, whose competences should account for the establishment of goals, organization, decision-making and responsibility for his own work. The great challenge of this scenario is the understanding of the reality out of the academic world and a disciplined organization of knowledge. The individual's role in education, the social representation, the inter-disciplinarity, and the human and institutional complexity are part of a great inventory of issues that interfere in an individual's professional formation for health in this new context.The University, either public or private, should form a committed individual, who can generate changes and face the challenges in the health area. Serious reflections regarding the insertion of the research in the education process in the new context are necessary. Therefore, the new course contents must cover anthropological and cultural aspects that represent the understanding of behaviors in relation to health.
