Link between Homocysteine and Cardiovascular Diseases

Purpose of Review Numerous studies have shown a positive correlation between serum Hcy level and various pathological conditions such as coronary, carotid, and peripheral vascular disease. Increased plasma Hcy levels are associated not only with an increased risk of arteriosclerosis but also with atherosclerosis and thrombosis. The aim of this review is to review biochemical mechanisms responsible for development and progression of cardiovascular diseases (CVD).
